No more ‘Vegaburger’ and ‘Soy Yoghurt’

The Agriculture Committee of the European Parliament wants a ban on ‘misleading’ names for plant products. This means that vegetarian products can no longer refer to sausages, minced meat or other meat products. This also applies to dairy products: no vegetable product may refer to an animal product, so ‘yogurt’ or ‘milk’ made from almonds, soy, or any other vegetable source, may no longer bear that name.

Now that this proposal has been adopted by the Agriculture Committee by a large majority (25 to 6), it still has to be accepted by the rest. At the end of May, after the European elections, the entire European Parliament will vote on the proposal.
