Insects, we’re ready for it

The same nutritional value as a meat product and the impact of a vegetable product; sounds ideal. But when, a few years ago, the first insect burgers were lying on the shelves of Jumbo supermarket, few people were enthusiastic about them. The burgers quickly disappeared from the shelves again. Now it’s different, there are a lot of developments, hip start-ups are working hard, in an innovative way, consumers are more exposed to this novel food and even European legislation seems to be cooperating.

In newspaper Trouw an interview with Professor of entomology Marcel Dicke of Wageningen University and founders of ‘de Krekerij’, cricket burger producers George Brandenburg and Sander Peltenburg. The burgers of ‘de Krekerij’ are already available in the first restaurants in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
