Designing the future of farms

Chain Links  - New Business Models
23-06-2020
Many Dutch farmers worry about the future of their business. They would like to grow, but not in size or number of animals. The Agri meets Design platform has been bridging the gap between agriculture, the food sector and the creative industry since 2013. Farmers, designers, policy makers and companies are working together on a future-proof food system.

What makes the collaboration between designers and farmers so successful? According to the participants in Agri meets Design, designers add a different view of agriculture. Farmers are often already creative themselves, but designers can use their imagination to convey the ideas of the farmers over the stage. The farmers receive an additional income by utilizing the assets already present at their farms.

Some of the ideas the platform has realized so far:
  • Co-working spaces
  • Educational programs for elementary schools
  • Mijnmelk (My Milk) a direct to consumer chain
